Hammer:
Can somebody point me to a web site and/or post the dates and location(s) of next year's Canadian Champs? I heard a rumour it was in NB, PEI and NS and that there were some details at registration in Whistler but I must have arrived before they were made available. I can't find any information on the OC, ONB, or OANS web sites. Thanks

Website will be: www.coc2015.ca but not much there yet.

Here's an image of the flyer handed out in Whistler.

Back in school by August 23rd?? Wow - is that common?

August 23rd (or a week earlier) is common in the Midwest. My K-12 and University (Kansas) started in mid August and let out in mid May.

Here in WA, it's early September and early June, which is more or less standard on the west coast.

Same on the east coast.

While also in the Midwest, Twin Cities area schools apparently are similar to the coasts.

One of our juniors started August 4. Most of our others started August 11.

Looks like all the PEI O-ing will be urban... :-/

Then again I've seen some woods there, so I can understand why...

Yes, the PEI will have a Sprint and probably an "urban O" event.
In addition there'll be more ocean-floor sprinting at Hopewell Rocks
And some interesting terrain with new maps for the Middle & Long
Along with a whole pile of Maritime hospitality.
And I trust we'll be there for lobster supper season

Sounds delicious!

My string of US Champs has been broken for a while, and my shorter string of NAOC's will be ending soon. But I've now started a string of Canadian Champs!

The ocean floor sprint is not to be missed!

I'm not particularly happy that the medal events are spread over six days but the reason - events in the three different provinces is a great one.
There are so many other plusses:
Ocean Floor, no need to say more
Back to Hillsborough - an intricate area with some pretty nice woods as I remember and for my wife's benefit they were building a golf course right next to the terrain as we ran. It should be finished by now.
PEI: There is some nice terrain there - around the hamlet of Peakes. I spend some convalescence time last summer putting that old map in to OCAD. Maybe we old timers could have a recreational meet there while the kids do the Sass Peepre thing.
Back to Wentworth Valley.
Lobster Dinners
A side trip to Halifax and the Canadian Naval Aviation Museum where a number of my dad's artifacts repose. (Well that may not be a big reason for many but it is sort of a pilgrimage for our family members.)

maybe there could be an event a Peggy's Cove. So many nice memories of that one.

I see your tongue firmly planted in your cheek jimkim but don't so quickly dismiss Peggy's Cove. Check out the area between the highway and the ocean, including the village and you will see a pretty awesome bit of terrain, lots of open rock and crags, lots of precision map reading needed.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't go to an event where the medal/main events were spread over 2 weekends, simply because I usually can't afford to be away from work that long... BUT! after my awesome experience in Whistler, I now view Canadian Champs as the awesomest vacation to have all year. The orienteering is great, but there's also enough down time and interesting things to make the rest of the experience fun and a bit more luxurious and relaxed as well. So now the spread out orienteering seems more attractive.

Also, my girlfriend (who was also at Whistler) said something about Anne of Green Gables and was looking up 2015 COCs before I even tried to talk her into another orienteering vacation. :)
