After reading szurcher's somewhat mournful soliloquy (bottom of June 22 log entry) about the travails of the WC circuit, it was time for...action! While fully realizing that little Laramie is not Norway or even Switzerland, we do what we can, and so we are organizing a cozy yet stylish weekend of races here on July 7-8, open to any and all who are kind enough to pre-register (see AttackPoint event listing which gives clues and hints as to the location of the actual event web site.) Many runners have already pre-announced they will be stylin' in their best party shoes.

On July 7 we will ride hard to see who can Git Thar Furstest With The Mostest, a one person relay in all the usual formats (whatever that means), somewhat in tribute to the spirit of the legendary Gen. Bedford Forrest, who, when surrounded by superior enemy forces and hopelessly cut off from any possible retreat, cooly ordered his men to: "Charge them both ways!" The meaning was slightly different back then, as it pre-dated the era of credit cards. This will be followed by Happy Jack training in the afternoon, for those who need some more. Everybody else will probably head downtown and buy some more shoes, just in case.

On July 8 we will unleash two brand new maps--"Boulder Wha?" and "Boulder Au Go-Go"--for the No-Crow-Fly Sprint Points Races. Needless to say (though we will say it anyhow) these will be the most amazing races to take place anywhere near SE Wyoming or even South Dakota that day. The sprints will offer valuable non-WC points and will serve as the warmup for an excursion on the Middle Twin Boulders map, where runners will get to test their speed against the high altitude antelope, if they dare.

Sandra, we all thought you were eating with Marc, and when we read you were "eating a lone" (which sounds lonelier, put that way), even the Sprint Commissar was rumored to have shed a tear or two, as unlikely as that sounds. Anyway, if you can git yourself to Laramie, there will be several Americans at least to run with, and we will pick you up at the train station if necessary and we can promise you won't have to eat a lone no more, at least not for the weekend. Even your brother is likely to show up for one of the days!
