The aspens extend much further uphill than the green patch on the map, NW all the way to the E edge of the clearing with the marsh, directly N of #6. This threw a lot of people off, including me. I was running until the end of the aspens, figuring I'd slow down and proceed carefully from there. But I found myself unexpectedly in a big clearing, and fortunately reognized it quickly as the one with the marsh. Of course, I should have been paying more attention to contours, rocks and distance as I ran alongside the aspens, but I was only paying attention to the vegetation.

I was on the left/south side of the aspens and started to wonder when they'd end when I saw Peter Gagarin to my left and hopped over the spur between me and the reentrant/control. Partly luck, but I also thought they might extend farther than mapped.

Thanks, I think that was all true for me, but basically I had stopped thinking or mapreading for a moment and did not react appropriately. I remember that big marshy clearing and should have figured out that I was too high and too far to the right. Well, it just was not my day, and as I had started so late, there were only very few people still out.
