Hi Blair. I'm a frequent reader, infrequent poster( here at least)

For your heels you could try a generous coat of vaseline, then put on a sock. Do that before bed and in the morning it should be quite a lot better. I've done the same on both hands and feet in winter here when the weather seems to dry out skin. (Same location, nearly, as hammer).

Had badly cracked heels in Europe in 2008 (wearing sandals combined with some wet terrain when Oing I think was the reason) and only thing that worked was.....moisturiser!

Eulactol Heel Balm is marketed at precisely this problem and seems to be very effective although I've never tried it. What works for me is a fairly robust vitamin E cream (Macro, in jar with yellow label) and trying to make sure feet don't stay damp (i.e. give them time out of sweaty shoes). Ironic that moisture causes cracks yet moisturising will improve them...

Thanks for all the advice - will give it a try. Think a contributing factor was probably being in wet shoes/socks for a couple of hours after the Sunday run (I didn't have a dry pair of shoes so didn't think there was any point in changing my socks).

O-ing would be pleased to know he was the reason for your cracked heels.
