Over 300 registered so far, but still room for many more.

Late registration fees come into effect in just a few more days, on July 7th

Middle notes: "There will be no water provided on the course or at the arena." "Please bring lots of water as none will be available."

May I assume you got a waiver from Orienteering Canada for a deviation from Rule 6.8.1?

(I plan to have a Camelbak with me, but wanted to highlight this note for others packing for the event.)

[Edited to add:] The other courses also list "no water" in the Arena, but presumably are close to other water sources such as drinking fountains.
The Middle requires a bus ride and walk. Be prepared!

Nope we didn't. Those are old rules ;-)
The current rules say that no water has to be provided if expected winning times are 35 minutes or less (which they are).

It is ironic that we won't have water at the arena, since the arena is at the RMOW reservoir. But it is quite remote and we have very limited access. There are no water fountains, shops, or any other services in this remarkable bit of orienteering forest (this is a very different situation from all the other races which have coffee shops within 500m of the finish ;-)

We don't want to scare you ;-)
But actually they are available (or becoming so). Don't be alarmed at how short the courses are - we are relatively confident that we will reach the expected winning times in most classes, and that everyone will enjoy the wonderful variety of terrains and orienteering challenges.

Here is a direct link to the course lengths (Long distance lengths will be added shortly). You can also find them from the COC2014 website under the "Schedule" / "General Race Info"

Adrian, I highlighted (bolded) the "at the arena" part of the rules, and I think that still applies in the new rules (13.7.1, water at start and finish areas). I wasn't expecting water on the middle course at a remote location.

Anyway, I was really just highlighting that lack of water to the competitors who may not look at the web pages before traveling.

Ah, I see it now. Well, I think we will probably have a little water as people cross the line, so we'll technically meet the rule. But we too wanted to make sure that people bring water ;-)
