My 310XT broke, so I bought a new one. It worked fine until yesterday. When I wanted to import a track to my log, I hit Garmin transfer, and it showed an option of two 310XT sources, my old watch and my new watch. If I selected the new watch I could upload the new track. Yesterday the ANT+ agent got stuck connecting, and eventually I re-booted because it couldn't seem to get unstuck. Then it wouldn't connect with the watch anymore. Worked at it for a while, contacted Garmin, deleted the watch and re-paired it and installed Garmin Express. Now the watch once again downloads and puts tracks on Garmin Connect. However, now AP only recognizes the tracks that have been downloaded to Garmin Connect from my old watch, and doesn't give me an option to import tracks from the new one. I suspect this is a Garmin problem, but any insights from AP? The Garmin guy couldn't quite understand what I was talking about.
Check my log entry from 1/13/2013 and see if there are any missing steps there that might help.
This is a Garmin Express
problem. It doesn't share any data with the Garmin Communicator browser plugin (that AP uses). You need to also run ANT+ agent.
More specifically, it seems that while Express syncs FIT data files from your watch to the PC, it keeps them in a place that Communicator doesn't know about. This could be fixed with either an update to Express or Communicator.
Well, no, seems like a different problem. When I couldn't get ANT agent to download data from the watch, I downloaded Garmin Express. To use Garmin Express, I had to let it delete ANT agent. After some fiddling GE did download from the watch to Garmin Connect, but won't send it to AP.
After reading the above, I downloaded and installed ANT agent again, and it still won't download from the watch. It just spins away, saying it is waiting for data. What seems to work so far is to download using Wahoo Fitness to my iphone and email it to AP. Then I can save the .gpx file from AP and browse for it in QR if I want to use that. Everything was working fine until yesterday.
Now I know not to expect Garmin Express to work with AP, though, so I can stop banging my head on that. The original and persisting problem is that the ANT agent no longer connects with my watch, even though it was already paired with it, and pairing is on anyway.
What if you delete the watch from ANT agent, and then try to re-pair it? Also, if you record a short new test session, does it sync that?
Here is a workaround for using Garmin Express with AP:
Find your sync folder:
http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/ca...Inside the [deviceId]/Upload/FIT_TYPE_4 folder, you should have some numbered files. The current version of Express that I have doesn't give them extensions, but they are actually .fit files.
If you rename them to add the .fit extension, you can upload them to AP directly via the "upload files" option.
(update: renaming the files are no longer necessary, they are now created with the proper extension)
No, ANT agent won't pair with it, and recording a short session was the first thing I tried, as that used to be a reliable fix.
I'll try the workaround. . .
Which worked, just like you said.
With my 310XT, the pairing sometimes turns itself off (I have no idea why). Go to Settings >> System >> Data Transfer >> Enabled (Yes) and Pairing (On). Also, in the ANT Agent, double-check Pair With New Devices >> Enabled.
@bbrooke - I tried all that. No luck. Something seems to be wrong somewhere.
I don't know why, but my AP upload just worked through Garmin Express with a Garmin 620!
The 620/220/210/110 are accessed directly via the USB cable (they act like removable drives), and are not affected by this issue. The Express problem applies to watches that use the ANT stick for wireless sync.
The 620 files can be uploaded through the USB cord. But there is also the ability to use WiFi (which is notoriously unreliable on the 620) or Bluetooth. Most of the time, my file has been uploaded to Garmin Connect (via Bluetooth to my phone) by the time I get home after a run. The only reliable way I have to get my data loaded into AP is to go to Connect and export my file as a GPX. It's a pain, but personally, I think it's a bigger pain to drag out the USB cord and hook up the watch (when in theory I shouldn't have to do this if the WifI was working).
