The course-setters (Rick Lavine and Dick Detwiler) are very excited about the course for this year. We both had a lot of fun finding the "control" points (places to ask questions), and we're sure that meet participants will enjoy their outing.
We have 125 controls picked out, which sounds like a lot, and is a lot! This will provide people who don't expect to cover mega-mileage with the satisfaction of still visiting a substantial number of controls. More than 40% (53) of the controls are within a 1-mile radius of the starting location, for example.
For those who are looking for a workout, though, there will be one to be had! It is estimated that one would need to cover 32-35 miles to visit all of the control sites. It is extremely unlikely that someone traveling on foot will get to all of the controls, and this year (unlike last year), we expect it to be quite unlikely that someone can get to all of the controls (and write down the answers to each question) on a bike. This means that route planning will be even more important this year.
While you can register at the meet site, it will cost $5 more per person. Also, due to cost considerations regarding map printing, we won't have an unlimited supply of extra map packets beyond the number of pre-registrants, so if there is a large number of people trying to enter on the day of the meet, there is a chance we could run out. Thus, pre-registration is very strongly encouraged.
We've modified the procedure for registering as a group. You need to select "Group" rather than individual, and indicate how many adults will be in your group (there is a place for children under 18 later in the entry process). The important point to note is that you MUST choose the number of maps to be equal to the number of adults in your group. It may appear like you have the option to choose, say, a single map for a group of 2 or more adults, but in our meet we require a map for each adult in the group.
