MNOC's trusty large format (11 x 17) Epson Stylus Photo R1800 inkjet printer has declared "end of service life" and quit . Does anyone have any good suggestions for a replacement club printer for use for printing 1500 - 2000 maps/year ? Any US club want some unused color cartridges for the R1800 ?

The Workforce WF-7010 will certainly do the job; it's not as fancy in terms of faithful color reproduction and eats a bit more ink per map printed. Resolution seems the same. The WF-7010 will probably quit after a year or so, but it's much cheaper, so perhaps a better deal.

my Epson did something similar a few years ago. I just went online and found out how to reset it and it began working again immediately. i'd do that at least for the ink you have left.

from what I read it happens when the ink sponges are supposedly getting close to full. those can be replaced/cleaned or you can go online and learn how to do it yourself. I never cleaned mine and used it for quite a long time after resetting it. in fact, I probably reset it a couple times before replacing it and never had ink overflowing.

Thanks for the tip ; I went online and did te reset (and read the dire warnings about what might happen if you didn't take care of the sponges ). It is interesting that you reset it a couple of times. I will continue to use for now.

The nice thing about this kind of fix is that you've got nothing to lose by trying. (I assume it doesn't say anything like "failure to care for the sponges will cause syphilis").
