Yökuppi's 13th season starts tonight. This year there'll be +2 events compared to last year so plenty of more fun.
Schedule (mostly GMT+3, except few events in Oct)
I don't yet know the link to the tracking (since RG's update) but Jagge promised to do at least some ghetto version for tonight. I guess he'll put the link up here.
Left in a hurry so forgot half of the tracking equipment. So only me an two other.

Same old tracking (new version isn't quite there yet).
6.5 hours to mass start. There will be two tracking pages: old version that works as usual, and a new very simple bare-bones dots on map style no-java version I wrote while watching last week's yökuppi tracking. It will not work properly, but if we are lucky a dot or two may appear. And if a dot moves (likely not), even better. Who knows, haven't done any tests yet.
I think Jagge will add the link for the new tracking at some point. But if you need to use the old one, here's a little "how to do it" (for Win Vista ->):
1. Start
2. type "Java" to the search bar
3. Configure Java
4. Security tab
5. Edit site list
6. Add ->
http://www.yokuppi.net
7. OK and good to go
And yes, today it's a mass start sprint in an army base.
I just did some tests and I think there may well be a dot and it may even blink. How cool is that!?
no-java tracking page is here:
http://www.yokuppi.net/trtesti/cgi-bin/reitti.cgi?...
I'll make test run before the yökuppi, starts in 10 minutes.
First time I've ever done tracking with phone, sweet. Works fine.
Worked if one tracked (with Firefox, I haven't tried with any other browsers yet). Multiple runners next.
There is no tail or any tools, just dots and legend, mouse over (or touch/tap?) runner's name in legend display route from start.
Ok, here we go. I must have somehow messed with the scale, controls rinds are too big and one of the controls are below control descriptions, but this must do for now. Runners have better maps.
7 tracked runners. refresh the page if you don't see them.
Ok, it's over. Tatu was fastest, but did he MP, #1 twice? maybe GPS isn't accurate enough to be sure, but elsewhere it was pretty accurate.
Tatu did mp. Like many others there.
How come I feel like this thread needs eddie...
He's probably still looking for you in the midst of his several hundreds of comments in the old thread...
That might be right. Next week he should be around. I'll be the course setter in one the most famous terrains in Finland: Hälvälä. Previous times the trackings have been quite legendary (though I won't be attending this time).
RG version we tested here with this live tracking without java applet is now available.
Start in 20 minutes. GPS tracking:
http://www.yokuppi.net/tracker/cgi-bin/reitti.cgi?...refresh page if it stops working, it has some problems getting hang of new runners on the fly.
It is still possible to rev up the old java ui by adding &java=1 to the url.
Like this.
And they're off! Now if only 14 were buried behind a pint-sized, overgrown stone in bushy white forest. For the sake of entertainment.
Edit: or maybe they're just off to the start line.
Or they are just really slow tonight.
That boulder thing is possible. But Hirppa knows latest trends well, so more likely he buried it behind an other boulder good 50m away.
At 1st controls there's a new clearing that isn't in the map. That might confuse people. Though I said there is such.
And just so you know, this terrain might be Jukola 2018 terrain.
Tatu had a great start. First wrong forking, now wrong way in butterfly.
I think Tatu may have taken #5 thinking it's his #2. Or maybe he just started running butterflies wrong way around.
Valtsu is working well so far...
Juha is in trouble now. Not the rihgt place for loosing map contact.
edit: nice fast recovery.
Tatu makes mistake at #14. somebody had to do it...
Next week Venu, Mäntsälä.
Autumn season starter in about 3h. Only me and 2-3 others in tracking. Individual start.
Start in an hour. Double the trackies than last week. Individual start.
Start in 30 minutes. Same maps as Finnish relay champs last weekend. Tracking:

Yay. The controls all look normally difficult, no killers. Where will it all go wrong? #4?
Woah, did Timo not see it? So close. And poor Jani...
4 is a good candidate. #5 and #10 may be tricky too.
Oh, Jani just needs to borrow a better gps?
Timo line-orienteering control circle :)
Jani usually runs with rather poor gps.
Poor Hirppa, standing still in a marsh on a cold, rainy, September night.
Timo finally spiked #4. But he will catch and pass them all, except Jani maybe.
Oh, Assu. Glad he survived that. Now I can go back to sleep.
#11 seems to have a strong magnetic field.
I wonder where they think they are. At the hill where #6 is located?
I knew Assu would pass them all but I did not know it would happen only one control later!
Assu must think he is still behind the big group. He saw them and then made two big mistakes, and now he is all alone.
Strange things happen in the dark of night. Tuomo returning to punch 6 again? And I wasn't expecting that at 7.
Yes, some action going on at #7. And that coming back think is strange. Hopefully not an injury.
Yep. Maybe light gone to emergency beam. He seems to be moving ok, at least.
Harri making mistake at #10. Wrong hill.
Quite entertaining tracking night again. Night O to WOC, world cup and TV!
I would second that! But they want easier orienteering and fewer mistakes and tighter races, because that makes better TV, right? Uh, right?
Is there any particular reason nighto hasn't made it to the world cup yet? Or even WRE events?
Good question. I do not know.
The thinking possibly goes along the lines you can't get good TV picture when it is dark and you can't know what going on because it is dark and no-one can see anything, so night O will never be good format for spectators, on site or TV audience. So it's not worth going that way at elite level, even WRE.
Just so you know, #4 had a wrong code. Thus the search. Other mistakes I cannot explain :)
It is Wednesday night again, 20 minutes to start.
And we continue tonight, live from Wrocław Poland, start in about one hour.
Here we go again, mass start in 10 minutes.
There will be a day when this happens and I am not about to go out for a run myself.
Straight from start place, tonight's tracking begins. First trackee seems confident. Later it may be possible to track Minna K if she arrives.
It's also district champs.
Today
The Final at 18:00 (in 8 h). There should be Tero Föhr and Minna Kauppi in tracking. Though on monday Minna said she may run B-course cause A is so long.
Also try to put tracking for the A-course's silver medal fighters. The situation is somewhat:
Harri is second if loses less than ~7 min to Kimmo (me) and Niko
Kimmo is 2nd if wins Harri by ~7 min or more and about head to head with Niko
Niko wins silver if loses less than 7 min to Harri and is ahead of Kimmo
Points at the moment
I would put my money for 1. Jani=
Hämis 2. Niko=
NiKe 3. Harri=
Hapardi 4. Kimmo=
Hirppa
Just got a word from Tero that he's not coming. So my time calculations may not work either. But they give some sort of direction.
