The mean streets of Heidelberg West.
If such confusion is repeated the good burghers of Heidelberg may be forced to take the same action as the ex-Heidelbergers in Eaglemont. In which case there will be no Heidelberg, only Heidelberg West.

Indeed, the distinction between Heidelberg and Heidelberg West is an important one. The boundary between the two seems to be creeping west at a rate of a block every couple of years but is still well short of the scene of yesterday's action, a street where I am unlikely to find myself other than (a) in the name of distributing political propaganda or (b) when my currently-stalled streets quest reaches the letter E.

Maybe the Heidelberg Heights agitation will reappear, only this time the demand will be to rename themselves as Eaglement West. Or rename Heidelberg West as Broadmeadows South. Many years ago Julie and I lived in Liberty Parade. It was at times very interesting. If you were choosing to live in Liberty Parade, the most desirable location would be in a unit adjoining the unit occupied by a member of the local constabulary. Which we did. This form of insurance came in very handy one day when the burglar du jour chose to empty the content of our various rooms onto the bed with a view to the front of the unit. How was he to know that our neighbour came home to lunch most days and parked outside that window... in his work car. We lost very little from that robbery and I was surprised we didn't have to clean up a puddle next to that bed.

It's already happening - a pocket of Heidelberg Heights has become Ivanhoe North. This did make logical sense - it's the area bounded by Bell Street on the north, Banksia Street on the south and the Repat on the west, and Bell Street is a much more obvious geographic boundary these days - even if it isn't quite as strong a sociological boundary as it is towards Thornbury and Coburg (where I've been known to refer to Bell Street as the "hipster wall" - the best indicator being the collapse of the Greens vote as soon as you cross it).

Hipster wall. I like that. In Hobart they refer to it as the Flannelette Curtain, running somewhere through Moonah. All the Greens votes are on one side of that as well.

And here I was thinking I wasn't a hipster. Better drink more coffee and grow a beard.

That's right. Metrosexual isn't hip anymore. How many months until beards are uncool?

That depends Neil, when are you playing on growing on?

I detect a few questionable autocorrects in the above question.

Lets see... perhaps 1981.

Consider me living proof there is life after a period of beard hipsterdom. In my defence, shaving whilst mountaineering is a serious chore.
For those curious...
1,2 Snowpatch Spire Bugaboo Range British Columbia.
3 Grand Saddle Teton Range
4 Pingora or maybe Wolfs Head, Wind River Range Wyoming.
