Nordic countries (thankfully) aren't letting this proposal die. Will IOF listen?

Amazingly I agree with the suggestion to reduce WMTBOC to every second year, mainly because it chews through my holidays. I can't even attend this year solely for that reason.

However, I find it funny they suggest reducing (or keeping) MTBO, ski-O and trail-O world champs to every second year whilst simultaneously trying to put forward a proposal to split WOC (as well as adding new races) so that there are two every year.

tRicky the Nordic proposal is to split WOC into urban and forest in alternate years, so only one WOC per year.

As for Trail-O they should get it into the Paralympics so that it is only every 4 years.

Oops, sorry I must have missed that bit. Makes sense.

WRC should be every two years too. Don't know why they changed that.

Details of the proposal are here:

Looks like they are proposing this start in 2018. Currently Latvia is the only bid on WOC 2018.

The WRC are every year because so many countries were applying to host it. The WRC are a money-maker.

The most interesting part of this proposal will be again a qualification rules for long and middle. Most of us would expect to go back to qualification races but if there will be changes again it is better for them to explain it in detail.

IOF $$$ means a split WOC will very soon give way to two-WOCs per year.

I see no mention of reintroducing forest qualifiers in the proposal. Six forest races in a week would surely be too tough for the best runners to be at their best in the final?

We'll have to see how the new format plays out. I suspect the long start lists won't deliver the good spectating and live TV that the IOF claim to want.

Interesting news for those that thought the removal of qualification races would mean all the medal contenders would run all the races:

So, apparently the new WOC programme is still too tough for the runners. Mostly because we already have a "Split WOC" with an "Urban WOC" in Venice/Trento on 5-7 July and then a "Forest WOC" in Lavarone/Campomulo on 9-12 July. And for those hoping this would be a special situation just for 2014, it's exatly the same in 2015. First "Urban WOC" in Forres/Nairn on 1-2 August and then "Forest WOC" in Darnaway/Glen Afric on 4-7 August.
