I said solid, I wasn't giving you a gold star or anything ;)

How many training hours have the HPP members been told to target a week?

W:
I'm not aware of a target.

Though a good target would be "More".

Hammer:
The target formula appears to be something like 14 - (x -y) hours a week where x is equal to the number of annual international races per year that an athlete can race in in 2014 while y is the number of races from 1985 - call it the baseline. Since there was no WC or JWOC back then and only classic and relay once every two years at WOC, y is equal to 2/2 or 1.

ie., Ted trained 13-14 hours a week to race in one WOC classic and (maybe) a relay every two years.

Now with annual WOC, annual JWOC, PWT, multiple WC races a year, and 5 disciplines, etc. .... well you can do the math.

Either that or the target hours increase as a function of the number of athletes that are trying for the team that exceed the number of available spots.

I joke of course.

"More" would be bare minimum. "Much more" even better.

I would be at least satisfied to see "more than the old farts in their 40's". I'm not sure what the excuse is. I work much more than full time plus have family and kids. Much less free time than when I was younger...

The suggestion that I'm drowning in nothing but spare time and choose to not use that time training is founded entirely in not reality.

Interesting interpretation.

I know little-to-nothing about other folks' spare time and how they choose to use it. My suggestion is simply that in my estimation, more training typically leads to improved success at WOC. And, I would genuinely love to see the Canadian team succeed.

We are all given the same 24 hours in a day. How we use them is ultimately up to us.

I believe The Wil(l)s are on the same page and Doc's comment not to W specifically. He's not logging much volleyball or hiking.

Wait, are we talking about me specifically?

No Carol not at all, I just picked two random activities. But checked your log and could see why you thought that!

I thought I was the only one on AP that plays volleyball!

I was a city all-star back in my formative high-school days. Played club provincially. Hit a mean X-ball. Sometimes I think about joining a rec team again.

Will, you just crushed my goal of being the best at the imaginary game of orienteering volleyball! (Uh, go find a court in the middle of the woods, play some people waiting there, and finish the race.)

I've been playing recreationally in the "A" league in a work league for about 8 years now. No formal training, however.

So, do you have to win the game when you get there? Is it like a rogaine where you get more points for a court that's further away? Or maybe it has more difficult players? Do you do it in teams of 6 or 2? What happens if people are already playing on a court you've gone to find? Would it be called "volleyb-O-ll"?

Details, details.
