Thank you to those who have been interested in helping Florida High Schools with orienteering programs to get O maps of their schools quickly available for their training.
I have one more project looking for a volunteer. Typically it takes several hours of work and involves using OCAD, Ghettocad or perhaps OOM to trace an orienteering map from air photos available on line. As this is not done for commercial purposes there seems to be no problem with the use of the images.
Typically, this being Florida, contours are not an issue, nor is tree cover. So a pretty accurate base map can be produced from half the world away. In some cases local resources are used to correct the base map and fill in the missing details. That is a help to the student orienteer right there. So if the storms of February are keeping you indoors and you are searching for something to do while watching the Winter Olympics take a look and Sickles High School on Gunn Highway in Tampa. They are in the second year of a growing interest in orienteering. They sure could use a map to help them prepare their first year students.
Let me know if you are interested. gordhun at rogers dot com
