Samantha:
Ross and I are visiting Tenerife for 6 days for a running vacation in February and we're looking for suggestions on where to stay and runs that we shouldn't miss :) Any tips would be great! Thanks!

We're going to La Gomera in Feb which is meant to be good for running! You can hop across on a ferry.
We had training camps to Tenerife a few times some years back and even ran on some maps. Oli will no doubt still have them so I'll give him a nudge.
You should definitely run up Teide but you need a (free) permit from somewhere to go to the very top I think.

You could always try, the "I don't know any better approach" to reach the top of El Teide. 15 years go, I ran/walked up, starting from the main road around 10k west of the main carpark, using a little used very rocky path. That way you I didn't pass the numerous warning signs. Needless to say the wardens challenged me as I descended the steps leading to the lift. They pointed at the tri-lingual warning sign I had just passed and I then showed them the unconvential route I'd ascended by and said truthfully I hadn't seen any warning signs. I soon got my comeuppance.

My backup plan if the descent was difficult was to descend the lift and run the 10k along the road back to the car. To my surprise the price to descend the lift was 80% of the return fare, I'd stupidly assumed at worst it would be half price and allowed a little over just in case. I'd started 45 mins late and the descent was very difficult going up in good light across huge jagged volcanic rocks.

In the end I tried descending, lost the "path" and ended up traversing a moonscape of razor sharp rocks lit by the clearest night I've known. It literally dazelled me to look at the stars. For an hour, with the temperature I averaged 30 min/k on almost flat ground with my pulse racing at 120!

Worse still when I got back to the apartment 3 hours after dark, my tearful pregnant wife had been told an hour ago by the local police that they would send out a search party in the morning if I hadn't shown up!

Samantha, Felicity and I stayed at the Refugio at 3200m up on El Teide on Xmas night 2013 then walked up in the dark for sunrise to the peak. You can climb to the peak before 9am as there is no one checking. Easy to do from the Refugio, hard to do from the car park at 2200m.
But if you run up from the car park you can avoid the checking station near the end for the cable car. I think that is all it is intended for, to stop the cable car riders walking to the top. We saw Hector Haines running up on Xmas day and he didn't have any problems without a permit. Or you can just buy a permit online. Just google Teide permit.
I would definitely recommend climbing Teide. It is awesome.
