eleven skiers going to Sochi. from canada that is. despite looking not too bad at tds I doubt Harvey will be on the podium. i can't see him beating all but two russians and norweigans in any race. toss in a couple of swedes, cologna it is getting packed. hope i am wrong. would be awesome if canada could continue to have names in the very top.

I think Harvey will be up there, he's a very smart racer and will have a podium shot in something. The rest of the team has been so up and down. I'm not sure if they will use the big boys (Harvey and Kershaw) on the relay or save them for other races. Valjas is still really hurting, was expected to race Trials but is far from peak form. Killick looked so good on Sunday, he'll probably be on the relay instead.

The women might sneak onto a podium in the Sprint Relay if there is a massive crash. Otherwise, I don't think it will be a fun games.

Wow the expectations sure change when you medal at the Worlds or Olympics eh. Amazing how much progress Canada has made in skiing since I used to race SOD 30+ years ago.

Expectations for me changed when I noticed how disappointed we were when Beckie failed to make A Finals at Worlds and then crushed the field in the B Final.

Sort of had the same with Louise, Emily and Will for Orienteering World Champs and making A Finals.

i totally agree that harvey is a smart racer and high altitude and potentially challenging snow conditions can definitely play in his favour. we saw what the latter meant at the first stage of tds.
there are more rest days between races at the olympics than at the worlds so harvey/kershaw may go for the team sprint. that is probably the event they have the best chance at anyways, and as i mentioned above, the sprint.

Every time Sudden trash talks the Canadian XC ski team's abilities Harvey responds with a win. Keep up the trash talking through the Olympics Hans. ;-)

Heia Kanada og Norge!

Sudden will rightly point out what the field was like, but someone has to win. Norway is having their Nationals and are getting beaten by Brits.

Ron Lowry had a great perspective on race results. He said something like "many years after the race, nobody remembers the race circumstances like the strength of the field, the quality of the map (change to waxing), etc. etc. They only remember who won."

Harvey won. Thats what I'll remember.

Ron also had a great quote that went something like this "There are two ways to be #1. hard work with lots of dedication, training and racing. OR making excuses due to laziness and then artificially raising yourself to the #1 status. People only recognize the former and learn to dislike the latter"

Wait wait wait, there's a way to artificially raise myself to #1?
