...because it'll be 44° at 5pm on the coast. Just like it was last time. :D

All the indications on Friday were that there would be very high temperatures at 5pm, with little sea breeze relief, even on the coast.

And actually on Saturday it was 36.8 at 5pm at Swanbourne (the BOM's coastal station), and still 36.5 at 6pm. For Perth it was 41.2 at 5pm and 38.6 at 6pm. Under our policy even the coastal temperatures would still be in the 'extreme' category, with cancellation recommended.

We are hoping to reschedule the event to Saturday 25th January.

Don't do that. That'll ruin my mapping weekend down at Wellington Dam.

Previous evidence to the contrary. :)

If they were sensible we'd let them make up their own minds about whether to go rather than being dictated to from above.

Some of the tennis players at the Australian Open would agree with postponing an event when the weather is above 40C.

Frank Dancevic hallucinated that he saw Snoopy on the court yesterday. I wouldn't want to be on the search party for someone seeing things that weren't there. I was at the Canadian champs in 1998 when the temperature got around 40 and the water stop I found ran dry. Abandoned the course and walked about a km back at that point.

Event rescheduled to Jan 25 when the forecast is 10 degrees lower.

But that clashes with Adventurethon Kalbarri ;)

Well you have a decision to make then:
a) Travel 155km north to an event you don't want to do
b) Travel 400km south for an event you were meant to be setting
c) Don't travel and enjoy Gero :P

Or travel half way around the world to do the 15 km Super Blue course in Sarasota County, Florida on the 25th. Temperature predicted to be in the 70's Fahrenheit.
