Closer to the occasion I will give you my (unsolicited) advice. You may not want to go the Kerrin option and take fruit cake, though!
Better give it to me now, it's no use closer to the race if I can't test it out first...
I've had quite a good run (no pun intended) with perpetuem up to now, although my one other bad experience was when I was a bit dehydrated so that could be it.
Have heard of a few ultra runners using the liquid food they use in hospitals which I wouldn't mind trying if anyone out there knows where to get it.
Well, my advice was to be aimed more at the level of someone who doesn't eat on the run at all rather than at someone who has tried more options and run more ultras than I ever will :)
I am not a fan of gels or protein bars so my starter options are Nutrigrain bars, salt tablets, Starburst Gummi Fruits +/- Gatorade. Is it true that watermelon is served at drink stops in the second half of Six Foot? (Watermelon at Narcissus was the best thing on Cradle!)
As for liquid nutrition, supplements like Ensure or Sustagen aren't hard to get (is Perpetuem nutritionally similar to these?) but the sort of elemental nutrition which is used for feeding tubes would require a fair volume to be carried and consumed, I'd have thought.
Yes - Sorry to hijack that comment. Always good to get a different perspective though so thanks for the info.
6ft has a lot of aid stations with a variety of food drink that seems to change a bit each year. I've only used gels there which I find ok for 4hrs or so but not good much longer than that.
Main thing is to practice a lot with getting amounts of food drink right beforehand I think.
Eating a lot in the days beforehand, pre-rogaine style! I know carbo-loading isn't for everyone (but I suspect it is for Blair); for me it needs to be lots of pasta 3 nights in a row. Rice just leaves me empty.
