For the last dozen years Nick Duca's adventure running team the 'Foreigners' has dominated the Salomon Dontgetlost Adventure Running Series. The concept of Duca's "Foreigners" team was simple - all team members could not be born in Canada. However, Nick and his Foreigners had to sit out this year's Salomon Raid the Hammer due to injury. But it was still non-Canadian teams that won this year's race!!!
Both the overall winners (Untamed/MadAthlete.com) and top coed team (Team Giggles) were teams from the United States. The Untamed/MadAthlete.com team from upstate NY have had several top placings at the series races but never had been at the top of the podium. They came from behind to catch Dontgetlost Adventurte Running's team and held off Team Vanbatkins. Team Giggles were 6th overall and top female team last year and changed their category this year to lead a very strong coed field.
This year's race was an 'away game' and took place in the urban jungle and 'burbs" of Oakville. This was the first time in the 14 year history of the Salomon Raid the Hammer that at least some portion of the race course wasn't within the Hamilton (aka the Hammer) city boundary but the Oakville Edition lived up to the RtH tradition of hills, more hills and even more hills. Participants now know why Canadian orienteering Champion Serghei Logvin (runit on AP) from Oakville is such a strong runner. The 16 mile creek is his 'backyard' and training area (he gave up the opp to race in his backyard to assist his club in race organization - thanks Serghei!).
Congratulations to all participants and we hope to see you next year when we return to the Hammer for our 15th anniversary edition of the Salomon Raid the Hammer. Teams can expect a little bit of the best of the last 15 years.

Another great event by GHO and the Don't Get Lost series. Big thanks to Pat-hectic for showing us parts of Oakville many didn't realize existed.

Yes the young juniors ran well. Since I ran the half raid as well I got see first hand how much fun they were having. That is a long way for the 12 and 13 year olds. shARX added Laughlin Boyter to their team. I thought they had one of the better team names. :-)
