We were a bit luckier, or just going slower, or Lyn was awake. We didn't really get too close but close enough in the gloom.
We were lucky too. Had the deer been 0.1 sec sooner, it may have been a frontal impact. The smudge on the side window is about 5 feet off the ground, so the deer was likely airborne and at windshield height. Yikes.
Taconic Pkwy. is a deer feeding area, and the fall is the worst (best) time for it.
I am always cautious along there, I think November is the worst month, they are out there in herds.
Yup. Be careful whenever you drive the Taconic--their corpses litter the shoulders of the road sometimes.
