Wow, what an awesome event. Not a surprise, because GHO does it right, but such a pleasure to attend. My only disappointment was that more people couldn't have enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone involved!
Great venue and courses. Well done!
Yes, thanks! The terrain was spectacular. I thought one route today might be faster for me to take trails around, and then I said screw it, I want to run through those woods. I enjoyed all three races immensely. Your volunteers all rocked! Dr. Mark was a treat - it's always great when you hear someone who is so passionate and knowledgeable about their subject matter. My friend and I immediately applied the lessons learned. I also though the ARK talk was enlightening.
Super exciting Men's elite racing - great job with the Red Group timing. Wonderful forest, campus, courses, atmosphere, volunteers. Just a great way to spend a holiday weekend.
Well, what can I say... that was fun. The weather was really spectacularly warm and pleasant. First time in Canada, and many thanks to Michael Lucente in custom-designing my walking urban stroll in Toronto after Saturday's race: Chinatown, Kensington, College, Dundas, and Queen West. Looks like that just like I {heart} NY is a trademarked and protected logo and its T-shirts in Manhattan are pretty pricey, same is for the I {maple leaf} Canada: no Chinese black-market shop would attempt in breaking the law and try to sell it.
The courses were very, very well-designed and interesting/challenging.
For the sprint, it was fun to be in an arena and really feel like you were racing. Lots of quick decisions while running fast, with a quick dodge into the forest before racing to the finish. On the middle, they dropped us into very technical & physical terrain from the start, then threw you into a long leg in a middle w/ route choice, and tested your ability to run through soft ground & navigate in flats after half a course in steep re-entrants/spurs, ending with a tough climb up a hill to sprint to the finish. On the long, a few quick technical controls right out of the gate that didn't give you time to figure out how to traverse the map corner to corner on 3-4, lots of route choices beyond that & lots of reasons to keep pushing the pace while keeping your head together for route choices & micro-routes.
And... at the end of the middle... poutine & meatballs at the food trucks, and showers in the arena :)
Thank you!
Great job, GHO/Don't Get Lost! Excellent weekend and warm-up to the US Classic Champs next weekend.
Thanks from all the Chicago area orienteers who made it out for the weekend.
Thanks for a fantastic weekend. The courses and organization were great, not that I expected anything less! And then having so many friends there made it even better. As did the gluten free meatballs.
