It is looking more and more like the 2014 US JWOC Selection Races will happen in conjunction with Get Lost!!'s Run Black Diamond A-event planned for March 21-23, near Concord, California. Brief, preliminary Information on the races can be found on the AP event page. At this time, use permits are still pending.

Please note that these races would not mark the end of the 2014 JWOC Selection Period. The Interscholastic Championships / Flying Pig XVIII, on April 4-6, 2014, will be the final races of the Selection Period.

As announced earlier with the 2014 Criteria, JWOC Team selection will be based on the best 3 of 4 scores: The three JWOC Selection Races and the Final JWOC Rankings scores.

I updated the AP info. I apologize for not having detailed info online; I prefer to be careful with "advertising", as some of the planned jurisdictions are ones that gave us a warning about advertising without a permit. We are much farther in the process on the Middle and Long venues than we are on either of the Sprints.

I will probably attend this event, and would be happy to help with ground transportation for juniors. Vlad will probably have suggestions, and he may suggest something other than what I describe below. I defer to him on all that.

For hotels, I would recommend the Marriott Renaissance Club Sport in Walnut Creek. I stayed there earlier this year, and I think it would be great for juniors. It is centrally located to the race venues, and is a nice, newer hotel. It has a lap pool, an enormous fitness facility, several indoor basketball courts, several racquetball and squash courts, and a nice lobby with TVs tuned to sporting events with lots of couches and plush chairs. Lots to do, without having to go anywhere. Rates are $132 per room per night, for up to four persons in a room. https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/oakbr-renai...

A junior who is old enough to compete at JWOC is probably old enough to take the BART. But that's a decision for each family. BART is probably easiest from Oakland airport, but is also doable from SFO. I have not purchased airline tickets, but will probably arrive on Thursday night sometime between 7 and 9. For those arriving on Thursday night, I could probably pick up juniors at the Walnut Creek BART station, and take them to the Marriott. And then provide ground transport from the Marriott to the races, at least to the capacity of the vehicle I rent.

The Concord Clarion is nice, too, and I believe it also has a pool. The Clarion is on the same block as the Road Runner Sports; it's a very long walk from Concord BART, about 40 minutes.

The Renaissance ClubSport is a very short walk from BART, but from the Pleasant Hill station, not Walnut Creek station. Staying anywhere in the Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill/Concord area will be best for the venues we have in mind. Walnut Creek is more of a city than Concord, with an established downtown, things to do, and more places to eat.

BART will most likely work excellently well for getting from either of the proposed Sunday Sprint venues to either of the airports. BART in itself will not work well for getting to the Friday Middle, you'll still have to catch a ride.

@T/D: Have you sought out Glen regarding the Concord CVB?

Our previous two events headquartered in Concord were so small that I didn't think a CVB would be interested. Hope this one is at least large enough to make it worthwhile for the store.

I'm sure Glen could help you with this -- a LOT. Just reach out to him...

I suspect that the very idea of people traveling from all over the US (and Canada, too) to Concord, to "try out" for world championship teams would get their attention... :-)
