For anyone interested, the event website is now up and running.
Love to make this one.. Been to Brazil 6 times but never for an O Meet.. Will check out the site.. Anyone want to carpool? ;)
I assume US citizens still need a visa for Brazil? Went there a few years ago and it was fairly easy then to get a five year multi entry visa.
Last time I went (2008) US Citizens had to have one but I think they dropped the requirement.. They might have reinstated again though so I would just wait until about 6 months before going.

Brazil requires U.S. citizens to carry a valid U.S. passport and visa when traveling to Brazil for any purpose. You must obtain your Brazilian visa in advance from the Brazilian Embassy or consulate nearest to your place of residence in the United States. There are no "airport visas" and immigration authorities will refuse entry into Brazil to anyone not possessing a valid visa.
As I understand it, it's essentially retaliation for the U.S. making it so difficult for Brazilians to get visas. Australians need visas for Brazil for much the same reason.
Orienteering in Brazil is an experience you will never forget, and I recommend anyone on the fence to jump and do it. The visa requirement is just trivial noise, and I am surprised that it is dominating the thread.
I'm saving up frequent flyer miles in the hope that we can go!
I don't fly much, so my strategy will have to be flying even less frequently ;-) There's good news for anyone over 65 though, in that public transit is free once in Porto Alegre.
Wonder if
this street will feature in the WMOC 2014 sprint?
