I'm planning to drive from Ohio to the WCOC's and Sass Peepre Camp in Manitoba. One of our local juniors really wants to go as well. Other juniors or adults are welcome to join us. Let me know if you are interested.
We will probably camp most of the time to keep costs low.
Something I did not know - US and Canadian Citizens UNDER age 16 DO NOT need a passport for ground travel between US and Canada (See Western Hemisphere Travel Intitiative (2008) for details)
I'll be there as well, just for Saturday and Sunday, flying into Fargo and driving up. Also planning to camp, wouldn't mind setting up my tent near friends.
Pretty thin field for W21...
I am planning to go, too, with Thomas. Hope more juniors go, I still have to register and mail camp registration to Kitty. I was watching the numbers of registered juniors... not great, I hope that changes...
JJ - I was supposed to be at a conference in Fargo from the 22nd-25th. Would have loved to share the ride. But circumstances have nixed those plans... sigh...
and the WCOC is a Canada Cup, goes towards US ranking if I'm not wrong, and the camp (day-time part) is now also open for adults, and the area up there is beautiful. @Mike which camping site are you considering?
"US and Canadian Citizens UNDER age 16 DO NOT need a passport for ground travel between US and Canada" -- that may be true, but be sure to have written permission from a parent/legal guardian to enter Canada and most especially to re-enter the US. Ask AW about taking my son across an international border without a passport sometime... :)
Right, definitely need birth certificate and parental permission. I prefer that everybody have a passport. One of the questions I've been asked when entering Canada with kids is if I've ever been denied entry to Canada. I wouldn't ever want to have to answer that in the affirmative and have to explain.
A birth certificate is certainly an odd document to carry on one's person. It's typically one that is kept in a safe deposit box...
I don't carry my birth certificate around with me (though I used to, a long time ago), because it just takes up wallet space and is basically useless. But it's just in a drawer in my house. Not like it's hard to get a replacement, I've gotten copies a couple of times and don't recall being asked for any kind of ID. It's just an extract from public records. Passports are more annoying to get replacements for.
