Below is a locator map for anyone not staying at the campground. We'll be doing all our hiking up and down from the trail leaving the public parking. I'll try to hang a control (or at least a streamer) at the trail junction that denotes the start. If you are arriving for the night-o, but not for hanging controls, the maps will be in a backpack at the start - you have to get yourself there. Sorry...

(click to make it bigger)

We'll be starting at that location for all the trainings all weekend. If I know you're coming, I will leave a packet of maps with your name on them in a backpack there whenever we're out training, in case you missed the group walk to the start.

In between trainings, I imagine we'll either be at the circled beach area, or the campground (come hang out, campgrounds 13 and 16 on loop A).

If you are coming for the night-o but not camping, I believe there is a gate to the park. I don't know when they close the gate, but I would not want to have my car on the wrong side of that gate after it closes. I don't *think* they allow cars to remain overnight in the daytime parking area, but I'm not sure - maybe one of the EMPO people knows.

***IMPORTANT***
For the night-o (and all trainings), YOU are responsible to get yourself out of the forest. You can carry a cellphone if you want, and if you get hurt you can call either me or 911, but it's easier to just not get hurt. We will reconvene at the campground, and ideally, you'll write somewhere or tell me when you're expecting to finish, so I'm not waiting up for you.

The latest that the gate to the Day Use Area (i.e. beach, etc.) is open is probably 8pm or so. They do close (and lock?) the gate at night and don't want any cars parked in there overnight. There is some parking outside the gate, near the park office. The non-campground area of the park may technically close at dusk, so a bit of stealth may be in order returning from night-O.

And for anyone who might think that the cul-de-sac SSE of the start triangle might be a good access point - it isn't. What's mapped as rough open land is all private and has houses built on it now.
