Little Blue Heron perhaps?

Don't think so. Not enough resolution in my iPhone to tell, but the bill looks curved. I'll see if I can figure it out when I can see it on my big screen.

I thought it looked curved at first glance too, then thought perhaps it was the angle. It looks heronish in general shape, has lighter legs and the blue bill description made me think of that species. But I'm far from a bird afficionado....

Little Blue Heron looks like the right choice.

Every time I see another blog post, I'm hohum, another state park, and then I read it and I'm, this is amazing and wonderful and Becky's going to get a book contract out of it. Keep it up!

I'm never "ho hum, another state park"! Becky's writing is great; she does research on background; and finds out-of-the-way things to comment on in each one (sometimes by going off-trail). I enjoy the big-boulder love too, as I'm also fond of large erratics. Go for the book contract!

I suppose this bird may be a LBH after all. I can't find anything in my copy of Peterson's that would give it a run.
