I have a problem with it, too. And I have the kind of reaction you describe to slurping and teeth on silverware. If there's a hell, it's filled with people biting their spoons, slurping their tea, and sniffling their snot. I wouldn't last an hour.
Yey! Someone else is crazy like me!
Oh, poor guy probably just broke up with his ? Partner. Sad times. You should commiserate.
Actually if it's really sniffles, I'd get out of there. Don't need unnecessary exposure.
I'm crazy too (wife labels it intolerant):
endless sniffling, eg, cold: 'blow your nose!';
slurping: god forbid - smacking too;
crinkling as in hand in potato chip bag again & again at roundtable lunch hour meeting...how dare you;
popcorn in movies...outlaw it.
(likely subject to hyperacusis:).
Kind of like running along in the woods by someone who is constantly grunting - how to get away. Wait a minute. Who is that guy?
I wonder if bose makes any sniffle-specific noise canceling headphones.... there is clearly a market (though, I agree that the market seems to be made up of crazy people).
How would noise canceling headphones help the crazy people? They obviously don't care about the horrible noises they make.
I think we're the crazy people Cristina.
Ever so often I google hyperacusis to see if they've fixed it yet. Doesn't seem like it.
Some day you may have no choice but to add tinnitus to the sound mix...no hurry!
I have a co-worker who sniffles, or snorts really, *all the time.* It is very annoying. Once, when she was seated between me and our quality control guy, he came over and asked her if she was sick. She was surprised and said no, why? He explained that her loud sniffling was very distracting; maybe she should see a doctor. Just allergies, she said. The rest of the day she kept it mostly under control but the next day it was back. I don't think she's even aware she's doing it.
And she had the gall to tell me that people were bothered by my occasional knee cracking.
