Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed is the brand name) is supposed to be a little better. You have to ask for it at the pharmacy, show your driver's license, and they keep tabs on how much you buy. It comes in 12 hour, or the 4-6? hr version. I like the shorter acting version better. But then I don't usually use it at the later stages of a cold. It sounds like your being bothered a lot.

Sleep is the main problem, it's nothing more than an annoyance during the day, but as soon as I lie down, I'm coughing and swallowing and it's gross. I was on Sudafed the first couple of days, might revert!

I slept half upright on the sofa last night! Pharmacist says adding an anti histamine to the stuff I'm already taking should do the trick. Will maybe take a drowsy one just before bedtime :)

I like Robutussin varieties depending on the nature of the affliction. They have stuff for head, cough, chest and combos etc plus day or night versions and varying time lengths. That plus an extra pillow helps make it less annoying. Good luck and get better - before Sunday.

For coughing at night, I sometimes use a mentholated no sugar cough drop.

I consider myself a connoisseur of nasal decongestants, and I have never found phenylephrine to be effective, especially when compared with the power of pseudoephedrine. The p-ephedrine is unfortunately a stimulant, but its ability to suppress congestion is without equal.

Can you sleep on your stomach? Breathing steam (e.g. from a cup of tea) or some capsaicin in spicy food or horseradish can temporarily clear out your sinuses, though I don't think any of those remedies will work for an entire night.

Hot and sour soup for tea last night did nothing! Yup, can't take Sudafed before bed. I'm hanging my hopes on the anti histamine for tonight!

Pretend you've got a sleeping baby (also with nasal drip) lying on you and that you can't move or you'll wake them, eventually you'll fall asleep! Seriously though hope it gets better soon, there's a really nasty cold doing the rounds over here.

I think it is that one Jen, caught it before I left home. Which means it's been hanging around for way too long now. I hope you guys are better soon too! Got my first good night's sleep in quite a few days last night so here's hoping.

That's good, hope you don't spread it around too much over there though! Alex seems to be getting better too so there is hope...

We can lend you a baby so you don't have to pretend, but his nasal drip has gone now.

my lung infection was partly characterisded by lots of coughing at night
that and headaches - meant I wasn't getting a great deal of sleep.
If you are coughing all night then its not just a runny nose.
go get the lungs checked. Seems there's been alot of it about

No headaches here, haven't checked HR for a bit. But I'm still not improving so I think you're right.

try a steam bath with olbas oil in (put boiling water in a bowl and add a couple of drops then stick a tea towl over your head and breath deep) - it cured my last annoying nasal drip...
