Shoes for training runs that mix roads and trails, and for urban/park races in less than dry conditions? I liked my Saucony Peregrines until they came apart at the ball of the big toe.
Any recommendations?
I like the inov-8 Terrafly 277 as my "hybrid" shoe. Good for a mix of roads and trails, light with some tread but not so much as to make road running awkward. There's a men's version (303) and men's GTX version (313). And a women's GTX (287).
I just started using the Inov8 TrailRoc 255 - sticky rubber in the toe area for rock & such, but a more durable material for pavement in the main part of the outsole. Good so far, but not a very aggressive tread, so less desirable when the terrain gets steep and slick.
Thanks for those: I like inov-8.
One way to go - Mizuno Wave Ascend - go for version 5 or 6 - haven't tried the 7 variant yet but have 3 pairs for training and 3 pairs for racing. They are classed as Trail shoes but have the very hard wearing mizuno x-10 "road" tread and decent lugs pattern for any off-road you might come across during an urban / campus O-event :)
I've also been using TrailRoc 255s - good on grass as well as pavement and gravel.
Brian, I'm loving the commitment to those Mizunos. I shall have to have a look at them as well. Thanks.
I use cross country spikes. If there is a good amount of asphalt, id remove the spikes.
Parkino - My wife has had a pair and daughter (winner of 3 Women Open Urban Leagues in UK in 2012) has just asked me to get her a 2nd pair!
