I need some feedback who has already use the new SI-11 card. It does come with build-in flasher. It would be much easier for myself and other deaf orienteers to see the flash from the SI-11 card rather than hear the control beep. Isn’t bright enough to see the flash during the daytime?
Mark, it has a very bright flash. You can borrow mine at Oregon Ridge next week and try it out on a course.
I understand there are compatibility issues with older control units. Is that correct? If so, what issues with which versions?
My understanding is that it works with BSF7 and BSF8 SI boxes, but they need a software (firmware) update.
I used vmeyer's SI-11 at NAOC for a few punches so she could verify connectivity or something. It's pretty awesome. I have major gear envy.
I need to sit down in front of a movie (or two) with my laptop and update all of OCIN's firmware. Ugh.
Yes, you do have to make sure that the controls are BSF 7 or 8 and that the firmware is 5.74 or newer. I think we had two SI-10/11 users at NAOC.
From that event, all of the OUSA and DVOA units are on 5.74, and QOC as well. Though there is a more recent update as well. With 200+ controls in my possession, I am not too anxious to do another firmware update.
Yup, love the bling! Of course, I only bought it for testing purposes. :)
Most recent firmware version is
5.80, released Oct 23, 2012.
vmeyer -- Cool! that you let me borrow and test it on this Sunday. Thanks!!!
The results software may also need updating... just fixed SI-Simple having managed to grab our sole local SI-11 owner and forced him to download.
I've haven't gotten Or to work with my 10/11 yet, but I also haven't had time to try it much yet. Any software that will work without the "extended protocol" setting enabled will work the the 10/11, anything else needs to be updated.
coady has been using his happily here on events that use Ór, but Ór may be leaving the protocol as it finds it.
OE / MT2003 works fine with SI-10 and SI-11...
