time, one short year ago, there was a nervous, unconfident YELLOW COURSE runner who in one year has evolved into being unhappy with a sixth place (out of 39!!!) BROWN COURSE finish. Nice trajectory!

That's realy good though. One mistake that should disappear with more time on the courses. That's what I keep thinking. Unfortunately, I can trump your heartbreak for the day. If I didnt feal so beat after downloading, I would have gone out and punched that control and finished the race. Looking at the results, I may have only dropped 3 places from where I would have finished... with a 40minute leg :(
My other moto is... There's alway next week (but that ends soon to)

Len see my comment on your page re heartbreak. After Batsto, look to QOC for meets. Although they might be too far for you guys...Baltimore area. I'm going to stay with cousins and go to the one Dec 16th.

And, um, actually, once you download you can't go back and punch a control you skipped. Well, not legally, anyway.

I skipped a control once and wandered lost for half an hour since I was not leaving the control I thought I was leaving. I am now a little more careful about checking that I am going to the "next" control - I've made it part of my control code checking routine.

After the yellow jackets got me, I went to the finish (because I dropped my map and compass. I didn't finish, just wanted to hang out with humans. :) Eventually decided to get my map and compass ... and while picking them up realized I might as well finish. +35 minutes from the yellowjackets. My RouteGadget is pretty funny, and my HR reached an all-time (recorded) high of 188.

The heartbreak: If I had just not dropped my map and compass I would have won! :)

That's great... but not. I mean It's unfortunate that these things happen but it's comforting that it's not just me. So thank you Sandy and hughmac4 for the stories.
anniemac - yes, the QOC is about 120 miles as the crow flys so it is a bit far for us. By the way, I saw your review of your run on Brown and I made the same mistake last week at Mt. Penn... Took a bearing off the wrong building :( Another lesson learned. I mean, how many buildings are at the top ridge of Mt. Penn? right, so I must be at the one I intended.
