What did you think of those rocky downhills near the end? I wish I had gone high out of 22 to the small trail - getting down to that big trail was brutal.
I went up and down the steep hills (much to my own surprise--I guess I wanted to see if I could do it); both out of 21, and in and out of 22. Of course, the slippery mud on top of the frozen ground made it that much more exciting. :-) I did more sitting/sliding; couldn't get my spikes dug in.
If I had it to do again under same (slippery) conditions, I would have stayed high/contoured on both, though that was challenging too with some steep side-hills. I think carefully picking my way up and down the steepness was a mistake, as Glen was twice as fast as me (or more) on those legs, rather than 1.5 faster.
Have you measured the course? Was it really only 8 km?
9.75km? Geez, I'm glad I gave up when I did! Great job, Janet and Sandy!!
I climbed out of 21, contoured around the reentrant and came at 22 through 6. Happy with that choice. Don't know why I didn't repeat the strategy for the next leg; I really think contouring out of 22 to the small trail would have been a much, much better route for me than what I did. Ah well.
If I have time, I'll measure the course in OCAD later.
OCAD measurements would be great! My eyes aren't as good as they could be; I did my best so I could add splits. I think Glen measured it a little shorter.
Even though I think I would have been faster doing the contouring routes to 22 and 23, I still would have walked the trail up to 5 (though under optimum conditions wouldn't have been chatting/distracted ), to avoid steep climb at the beginning.
It measured 9.71 in OCAD.
At some point I will send the files to Valerie for Route Gadget but IS registrations have me swamped at the moment.
