I use that site occasionally to try to find historically-correct map names. There are a few places I've seen where large reentrant systems seemingly didn't exist 100 years ago.

Looking at the 1893 contours reminded me of a mapping book I've got - a text book from Fort Leavenworth on military map making before the days of air photos and photogrammetry.
