Swampfox:
Just 5 daze to go before Laramie Daze kicks off, next Tuesday. The numbers are much higher than I was expecting and entries still seem to be trickling in.

I made up an "even" number of 72 sets of maps for the One Cowboy Relay (there are 24 course variations for this year's motala; 3 x 24 = 72) thinking there was no way I would need so many, and here we are with 70 registered cowboys; it's going to be quite a one cowboy relay!

Last year we had 30ish or so runners going out in mass starts on some courses about 5 km long, and I've been wondering how well things would work with larger numbers. The answer will be arriving quickly; on Daze 1 at Moose Outlet we have 66 runners signed up to go head to head over 5.7 kms. My prediction is the results crew (me) is going to really struggle. One possibility being considered is to spread out some quick setting, foot activated concrete along the finish chute to keep runners from blazing through the finish too rapidly.

67 runners are signed up for the Rocky Mountain Goat, and from the standpoints of map, terrain (can not over-emphasize the terrain quality!!!), course design, and depth of competition field, this should easily be our best Goat ever. And there are no forks or skip controls to muck up the course design. It's a racers course for real orienteering racing.

See you soon.
