just so as not to sidetrack this thread any further.....

I'd much rather be ahead on this list than on the olympic medal tally. Congrats to our neighbours NZ for a shared silver medal....and looks like Canada has another 4th placing.

MrRogaine:
How the heck did the US wind up at only 88 on that list, given that in any recent year as many as 30,000 people are killed by guns in that country? That's about 82 people per day. In light of that, it makes me also wonder why the US media focussed so much on the terrible incident in which 6 people were killed in the temple near Milwaukee.

"Maybe it harks back to earlier times and being delighted when our tribe defeats the invading tribe."

I can say that history teach us that we can't live all for one, one for all. Like someone says Olympics are peaceful war and it is better to give people Olympics than war. What I really like is that our system still gives our children healty environment (post from AZ) so most of our people are still very proud to be fit and to have sporty live more than just to have a chance to spectate.

Why we need this? - maybe because we (countries) just can't live more or less equally. We are not willing to find a model how to finance a minimal social and essential requirements for all to get rid of hunger, poverty and so on on this planet earth. So we came to the point when we gather in even larger communities when someone says that we should live by the rules of democrates or by the rules of republicans. In many ways we still act as an animals so it is normal to maintain and support humanitarian organizations, charity conferences, etc which are our bad conscience. A few more questions.

- Should we vote each 4 years what is the minimal view of the proper ethical and humane management of the world politics?
- Should we make clear where are the borders regardless who is on power?
- Should we make clear what each community should do for other communities (in most cases rich to the poor)?
- Why we have UN, WTO, IOC and other global organizations? Just to make profit for some exclusive elite tribe and make good excuse to do nothing when people need help?
- Why USA and other countries are allowed to participate at Olympics if they don't want to sign International Conventions or are in the middle of the war?
Should Olympics be more than just a sport? in reality not just on paper?
- What is inbuilt in our system that we as a community can't change it even if we still desperate want to change?

So my rhetorical question is: Can we as a community develop "we won" mentality and beat IOC tribe on the long run with better model for all at least in sport if we can't agree on much more important things in global politics?

Till then I enjoy different sports as recreational way of life.
