As some of you might know Edgars won middle and was third in long. That is the best result by Latvian at WOC so far.
I noticed that Ergars was mentioned few times in WOC posts but I did not reference where he is from. So here it is - Edgars Bertuks is from Latvia.
Indeed, sorry our reporting didn't make that clear. Really awesome.
Oddly enough, one of my co-workers just ran into me in the hall and said her (Latvian) husband was looking for me. He had read somewhere that a Latvian had won a gold medal in orienteering! Its a big deal for us in the orienteering community, but when an ex-pat in some random US city is hearing about it, it must be a really big deal back home in Latvia. I informed him that Edgars had not just one but TWO medals this year.
Here are some photos I took of Edgars in the races this year:

I would not worry about apologizing for not mentioning where Bertuks was from - as a lone Latvian on AP it was my job anyway. Everyone was tooting their own horn on JWOC and WOC posts that I thought I'll do the same.
Throughout the years there are going to be more WOC champs out of Latvia but Bertuks will always be first.
