Discussion: EMPO's spring A-meet now US Champs (S/M/L)

Now there's even more reason to head to the Lake George/Glens Falls area of New York next spring -- the Orienteering USA Board approved our bid for the US individual championships (sprint/middle/long). This event has already been selected by the US Team as their team trials for 2013.

Save the dates, May 10-12, 2013!

Awesome! A whole bunch of national champs in the upstate NY to southern Ontario region next year. US Champs (S/M/L) by EMPO in spring and then US Classic Champs (ROC) and Canadian Champs (GHO) on back-to-back weekends in autumn.

Does anybody know if West Point will be the weekend before EMPO? Harriman training camp anyone? :)

Is the Long on Sunday (aka Mothers Day)?

Long is on Sunday.

Generally West Point is the first weekend in May but won't know that for sure until the fall when the cadets are back to school. I can try to email Col. Hendricks but he can be on assignment as well. There are 2 cadets on the JWOC team that I might be able to find out from as well.

Is there something else on in Lake George/ Saranac Lake that weekend? I tried to book accommodation at my favourite hotel chain and found very high midsummer rates will already be in effect for that weekend. Camping seems like the practical option .

Americade isn't until June (that's the largest motorcycle rally in the US, ~60,000 or more), and the Lake George Chamber of Commerce doesn't have any events on their calendar yet.

Also check Queensbury. We may be able to arrange a group rate somewhere but made any attempts yet. Where did most people stay for the 2010 classic champs?
