In my business, the next question after someone says they're engaged is to ask if they have set a date. It seems like around here there is a kind of engagement (with no date set) that maybe means, well, we might get married some day, but no hurry. I'm not sure if informing respective moms is part of the routine.

I assume things are more serious in you son's case and congrats are in order!
