One could gather from some super quick times that people ignored the compulsory taped route to the finish control.

I ran it flat out on the short course and got 21 seconds and Shane is in no way a faster runner than me.

Umm, actually on the Curtin course he was only one second behind me but then one of the McCauleys was three seconds ahead and I thought I ran that flat out too (although the sand held me up). Finish splits are sometimes funny things.

A couple of early starters may have done while I was otherwise occupied doing novice briefings and sorting out gates. It was probably due to my starting the taped route at the control but they approached from the other side and may not have realised it's significance - not that this excuses them from not reading the descriptions and/or knowing that a dashed line means a marked route, and not reading the event notes*, two copies of which were posted on the rego table. As soon as I noticed, I started turning people back (Ameko was the first one - his split was a very fast 1:07 :-)) and then moved the tape back so that hopefully everyone would then be on the correct side of it when they reached the control.

* I think most people read them, as they all seemed to be warming up on the lower oval, as instructed.
