yeah i don't think you quite got my point jenny... i don't wanna get into a discussion about the rules on minimum checkpoint separation (ok i do - i don't think there should be a rule, isn't that what the number on top of them is for? - but maybe not here and now) but i think my dodgy drawings below show what i was thinking (anyone know what map it is?).
so along the lines of we have an area with small areas of details and nothing much in between.. here's one of the small area of detail that you want to put a couple of short legs in, here's how it looks at 1:10000
which isn't ideal, and you can't even properly use the detail cause to get 2 short legs in there you can only stick the checkpoints on the edges. thats pretty much the case even with only 2 checkpoints in there. (obviously you
could overlap the circles a
little bit) here's the same checkpoints on a 1:7500 version
so there's actually a bit of room to move... i know simons concern about using 7500 scale was keeping the course a middle distance and not letting it become a "long sprint", i think thats up to the course setter. my point is simply that a rule that we have to use (for example) a 1:10000 map then we may not get the best use of the area.
