Hi!

I´m going to visit my sister who studies in Victorias and got a tip from Jenny Johnson that you knew were to be and to do to get some good training! Do you have any tips on good trails to run, lots of info on the web but hard to know which that are good. Are the orienteeringmaps in the area always available to run on?

No permanent courses, but you can see all the sprint maps recently updated for the sprint camp: http://sprint.whyjustrun.ca/Maps.php?year=2012

For trail running I really like Thetis Lake Park, it's right near the city. If you like forest orienteering, then Royal Roads is pretty good.

If you're in Vancouver, then I'd recommend trail running on the North Shore, in particular Rice Lake, or starting from McCartney Creek. More Vancouver maps here.

Thanks for the tips! How do I get some Thetis Lake Park maps? Anything else I shouldn't miss if I'm in the area? Tofino and Whistler are two places I'm planning to see.

Hill training try Mt Doug; which is very close to the UVic campus and can be jogged to easily if your sister lives anywhere near the university.

Otherwise for more pure trail running ...yup Thetis is a where it's at.

Both have O-maps. I can email scans of old maps or maybe find an old VicO contact to provide you with hardcopies. When will you be in Victoria?

If you're going to Whistler you should stop in Squamish and hike/run the Chief and take the orienteering map for the top too - one of these guys should be able to send you a copy...

Did you ever get a map of Thetis? If not I'll email you an old scanned course.

John-R - just sent you an email with map scans. Sorry for the delay hopefully you can still get out to Thetis for a run today or tomorrow before you skip town.

Thanks for the help :) Unfortunately I didn´t manage to get out to the Thetis map, but I'll give it to my sister so she can visit it.
