Thanks guys, I was not expecting to run 50 km. at the start, but all things considering it went ok!

I feel your pain. Had a similar experience back in 98. only then it was 8km instead of 4km. Cant imagine running a pace for 25km, and then having to switch to 50km pace. Impressive you managed to pull it through. Btw, whats with all the races that you have to get up in the middle of the night???

It was a big change to switch my pace from a 25 km. pace to the 50 km. pace. My whole race mindset had to change from getting a good time to finishing and not getting injured! All the races start very early in the morning to beat the heat of the day, +25-+26 vs. +33-+34 makes quite a big difference.
