leaving 3, i made a compass error that had me going the wrong way for about 30 seconds. that cost a minute or so.

I'm amused that your compass error had you leave the control in just about exactly the same direction I left it.

hmmm I see that - but to the best of my recollection I was intent on taking the trail at that point . . . so for me it was an error, although I am not sure I can honestly blame it on my compass
