and the early registration fee is coming up in couple of days. if you attend our event in previous years, you know what to expect, if you didn't, then try our challenges this year at Mansfield ( with probably a new area for orienteering added ).
we'll have like 10 pairs of rental snowshoes FREE to "first registered/requested, first served"

Nick:
1.5 days left for the early fee. 2 team mates from 'Foreigners' will test portions of the snowshoe section- just before the snowshoe raid-as last training

Quick question regarding the Stars Winter AR next month. If people want to do just the Snowshoe portion, does it still have to be in teams?
Jan 23, 2012 8:48 PM #
FunRun:
No, if you do just the Snowshoe-O or just the Ski-O, it's solo.

Okay thanks Craig!

Hey! It's snowing out there!! and more on the way!!! and Mansfield has 38K of ski trails open!!!! That's great news!!!!! :-)

Great news because Stars Winter Adventure Race >> that fun yet challenging 2 person team ski and snowshoe race, where you charge through the woods and trails at beautiful Mansfield and try to find all the flags and get to the finish first << is only two (2!) weeks away!!

Why do I remind you of this? >> Because regular pricing ends this Sunday midnight (and I like to save you money on your adventures)

So go register your team right away! (or for those who just want to do the Ski or Snowshoe portion, go register as a solo racer)

And, similar to last year's rules, Nick Duca's course will have an age/gender handicap to keep things interesting! (everyone's a contender!)

ahuumm,... ahummm... can I be 12 years old for this one?
Jan 30, 2012 2:18 AM #
FunRun:
Ummm... no. You already get a better handicap than me, and I'm older :-)

Despite all our optimism for an awesome February of snow, it seems Winter is just not getting it's act together! [Much of that good snow last week is gone now :-( ].

So, hoping snow conditions will improve in a couple of weeks, Stars is tentatively rescheduling the Stars Winter Adventure Race until Sunday February 26th. We hope you are still able to join us then, and if you are unable to, we are happy to arrange a refund [please request by Feb 10th]

(Still looking forward to an awesome ski and snowshoe adventure, charging through the woods of beautiful Mansfield, trying to find the controls and get to the finish first! Here's hoping for snow!!! :-) )

and the optimism is good. Mansfield received some snow over weekend , but just a bit north was even more, so the chances for our event look good. stay tuned !

Knowing how much everyone has been looking forward to the Stars Winter Adventure Race, and we don't want to disappoint, we've decided to go where the Winter is :-) !

Stars Winter AR is taking our event north to the SNOWY trails of Wasaga Nordic at Wasaga Beach Provincial Park! This is a place we know and love, and they have 30KM of trails open!

It's still on Sunday February 26th, and if with all this snowy possibility you suddenly realized you haven't registered yet, or have more friends you want to bring along - we've extended regular registration fees until Monday night!!! (Mon Feb 20th midnight)

final testing of the courses for next weekend done today. super pretty in places, and super fast - in other places. more later. now super .. tired
Feb 20, 2012 10:03 PM #
Nick:
some info re- the snow shoe portion. lots of orienteering and some trail snowshoeing. that portion is roughly 10k (on GPS )if your team have to do all controls, or with some 'handicap'- based on team members age and/or gender could be only 8 k. i was a bit tired yesterday - however prediction is a winning time of 65 to 75 min for that portion. have to work more on planning for the ski portion. did some route choices , now need to put pieces together.Register and come out - you'll have loads of fun ! regular fee still in effect

weather forecast for Wasaga predicts about 10-15 cm of fresh snow thursday eve till late Friday. if they get it right will be a nice treat for the event. Registration link still open :)

rlindzon:
Hey Nick, I see 10-15 cm in the forecast for K-W, but only 4-6 cm for Barrie, Midland and Collingwood in the snow belt. Still a big improvement over what we've been getting and perhaps the flurries they're forecasting for Saturday will turn into more than that. Should make for good skiing on Sunday. Off now to do a quick early morning loop in Midland.

rlindzon:
Forecast for the Barrie, Midland, Collingwood, which circle Wasaga Beach, for tonight and tomorrow has been increased to 7-12 cm.
