Strange. They have potentially good maps but no effort to update them. And per Ian, their coffers overflow. And they insist on exorbitant entry fees to fund - what? Adding trails and making adjustment to veg is not a horrid task these days and would make a big improvement.

The problem, apparently, is finding mappers who aren't booked up for years to come. And it doesn't seem the club has a lot of amateur mappers willing to take on this sort of project. As I understand it, the club would be happy to spend money on this if the mappers could be found. But I don't really know how hard they are trying.

I lean towards the view that, with a map as out of date as HP, and with LIDAR available (I think) for Eastern Mass, it would be best to redo the map from scratch.

Finding a mapper has been a problem for many years, despite the ease some think of the issue. We could certainly work on several existing maps and then go on to new areas. And there are lot of neat CT areas that would make great maps, some very close to NH or Hartford or both.

As I read this, I'm reminded I need to send 2 emails to mappers as result of UNO club mtg - one for Bear Brook for 2015 BD (same guy) & there is an Italian mapper who twice has written asking re future work. It does indeed require time & planning way ahead to get competent mappers to come (from Europe...?), to live, to work. Alexey was here 4 wks with rental car & apartment...$$$ but worth it.
