Before I made the original Bull Pond map at West Point, I went down for a day when Göran Öhlund was mapping Round Pond to see what I could learn. We parked on the edge of the map and headed up a dirt road to get to the interior. I was walking pretty swiftly to keep up. After a few hundred meters we reached the top of the hill, time to head off into the woods to start mapping.

Except I looked at the map board and both sides of the road were marked up.

I used to map pretty quickly. But not that fast. And certainly not 8:28 a mile.

Guess I better change the activity to "running," if only to keep my total of mapping hours accurate.
