Well... It is almost January right? And where the heck all the snow gone?

Certainly, those folks who got stuck in Denver this past week didn't think so, however:

I want to ski but by looking at the weather forecats for the next week for Lake Placid It seems like goats' plan for New Year ski-trip is kaput...

Dilema: Who to blame?

Well... When this becomes that

and when this becomes that

I think the answer is quite clear!

So, pple please buy the next Prius or whatever coz I want to ski, or like I said, the next Ski-O will be in Antarctica!!!

look here for more info: Do the right thing! Fight the Good Fight!

This Christmas you might just about be able to hold one in southern Australia - as I write snow is falling down to an elevation of about 800 metres in Victoria and Tasmania. Quite impresive considering it was 37 degrees C in Melbourne last Thursday (and 42 a couple of weeks ago).

and while you are at it, stay the bloody away from Antarctica. Its the only "untouched" natural sanctuary in the world and the last thing it needs is hordes of bloody tourists altering the landscape (which is the reason you dont have any snow in Denver in the first place). Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone.

Nah...I figure that full fledged electric cars aren't far off. The ones that were commercial a few years ago (by GM, Ford, Toyota and Honda) didn't have too bad range, and the current ones (NICE, Tesla) are making headway on either price or range and performance. (Tesla is a sports car with better acceleration than a Ferrari, and the backing of the founders of Google and ebay. Family sedan to come.) Toshiba announced results last year with a lithium ion battery that could be charged to 80% in one minute, with an eye to hybrid vehicles. A range of 240 miles (a la Tesla), charging within several minutes and a moderate price would make petroleum vehicles largely pointless. Won't be without a fight, but it'll be interestin to watch.

Further to Blairs comments about snow in SE Australia, this is the front page news today. Bushfire to white Xmas. CFA is the acronym for Country Fire Authority.

Here in north Italy the situation is not better! just 30cm of snow cover our meadows..and it's completly iced...but is enough to train with skies, but not to do ski-o

I hesitate to jump in, but it's all "face shots" around here (ie-big powder) as Brian previously posted. Though, we may end up with floods and slides come spring due to historic fires and beetle kill.

My turn to whine. It didn't even make it below freezing last night in Minneapolis. Rain showers two days after Christmas. Soon, skiing is going to be like hockey. We are going to have to sign up for snow time at the man-made places at ridiculous hours. (That's not a rip on hockey BTW, just the inconvenience of ice times.)
I can see it now... Taking my son to nordic practice at midnight on a school night.

Last night I was at a park with an ice rink. The director actually yelled at two kids skating that he was going to "call the cops" if they didn't get off the ice.

OK, I'll take the blame for the lack of snow in the NE US. I bought brand-spanking-new XC skis (skate and classic) for Nate, and other than the trip we made to Tug Hill a few weeks ago, he has never been on skis in his life. So far: 5 scheduled races; 5 cancellations.

I think if I had purchased used skis, there'd be plenty of snow here by now. At the rate Nate is growing, he may outgrow the skis before it snows again.
