Get Out There Mag - a Canadian outdoor sport magazine recently published it's first Race Director's Guidebook.

I thought it would be a good thing to share. The things I think are particularly interesting though are some of the things not mentioned but implied.

From p.10: "Inlcude a logo and a few rights-released photos from your event in the media section of your website" I.E. a) you have an event website (though I suppose a club website could double as this) and b) have a media section for media.

P.12 "Take a long-term view" This section talks about checking in with sponsors and prospective sponsors multiple times a year. It assume of course that the event is an annual one.

P. 14 Day 3 talks about having the same name for your facebook, twitter, and youtube pages. (Facebook.com/myeventname, Twitter.com/myeventname, Youtube.com/myeventname) Obviously before you have event pages on these sites you should have an event site myeventname.com. I've just secured all of these domains this for the Ottawa O-Fest even though we're not using them all yet. (OttawaOFest.ca, Facebook.com/OttawaOFest, Twitter.com/OttawaOFest.ca, Youtube.com/OttawaOFest.ca)

That's a few things from the first half of the guidebook. I haven't had a chance to look closely at the second half yet.
