I am trying to put together a team for POCAR (http://poc.purdue.org/pocar.php ). Last year we our team was the unofficial winners. One of out teammates had to drop out with a knee problem but the rest of us still went on to the finish line.

This race is a solid navigation challenge. Mostly on trail sort of like a rogaine but the points need to be collected in order. Maps are USGS with UTM coordinates.

Looking one or more male of female teammates preferably with 24hr experience.

Good Luck in 07

Click on the link, then delete the last parenthesis and the period. Or just click here.

Jan 13-15 in case anyone else is interested in the date... I probably won't be available that weekend, otherwise I've been wanting to do POCAR some year... although their 4 person minimum team size & excessive required gear list are a pain in the butt... at least their registration deadline must not be quite as ridiculously early as in the past, if it is still possible to register only a month before!

The site says the reg deadline is 12/5. I don't know if they are flexible on that or not. As for the gear list, it's pretty light by Adventure Race standards. I must say, I prefer the ROGAINE mentality where you just head out with what you think you will need and if you're screwed, well, you're screwed. Unfortunately, that won't fly in AR because there are so many newbie teams that really have no idea what to take. I think most AR directors err on the side of caution - sometimes way over on that side.

If the deadline was 12/5, I suspect this is a dead issue unless Paul has already paid for a team. A couple years ago about this time -- the year I first heard about the POCAR -- I tried to scramble to put together a team and asked the race director if it would be possible to enter. I really figured that an extra $50 or $100 late fee would do it (what college based outing club couldn't use the extra money?), but they were absolutely inflexible on late entries. Eric is right about the comparison of adventure racing to rogaine equipment standards.

POCAR sounds fun. So many teammates though.
