Bulletin 3 has been posted.

This includes everything you need to know about the courses, parking, travel, starts etc. It also has the course setters notes for each day. Copies will also be in the registration packets.

For Sunday's "bus ride and walk," how much time should the average person allow to get to start?

It's not clear to me from "buses cycle through parking every 25 minutes" how long the bus ride to the arena will take. Also, are toilets available at parking areas or just in the arena? (Should I plan ahead? :-) )

Thanks for posting the bulletin! I'm looking forward to the event.

Toilets are only at the arena, and for sunday they are actually at the bus drop-off which is 300m from the arena. I am about to put up a new version of the bulletin with arena diagrams that make this a bit more clear.

The bus ride from parking to the arena, is ~10 minutes. It is then ~300m to the tent. There are two starting locations on Sunday. Red and Blue start at the tent, all other courses have a 15min walk to their start. Sunday is going to be an early day for everyone, get there with plenty of time.

So the total walk to start on the middle is actually 2.3 km? 1.3 km from parking to finish, then an additional 1 km to start?

GuyO:
Hmmm...

No parking at the Sheepfold (Long arena)
Awards at the arena
Buses (or perhaps, bus) every 25 min

What could go wrong?

acjospe:
Yes, the total walk is 2.3km on Saturday, but the idea is to stop by the arena on your way.

Nice! Impressive bulletin and enticing terrain write-ups. I'm looking forward to this!

Well I suppose one thing that could go wrong is that when the awards are over there will be a big crowd of people all trying to get onto a bus with limited seating. I guess that is what you mean, right GuyO?

Good to think about that before Sunday afternoon for sure. I suspect that 25 minutes for the roundtrip is generous and hopefully there won't be too much of a long line waiting to get back to their cars all at once.

If you don't want to wait around in the bus line, I bet the CSU crew would love some help picking up controls and stands from the forest ;-)

Well, Ross, luckily the bulletin says that once you are done running, you can walk back to the parking area through the terrain. This is a short walk, of 1-2km.

I think Guy was actually worried the sheep could get out of the fold and start munching the edible awards and then the award winners would get upset and set fire to the bus and eat inordinate amounts of toasted marshmallows and then where would we be?

Full of smores and happy?
Oct 18, 2011 3:49 PM #
ndobbs:
That's what I was thinking, but then why would Guy be worried?
Oct 18, 2011 5:17 PM #
GuyO:
Rosstopher is correct in his interpretation of my comments.

What I have seen in situations like this, is that, after running and some hanging-out time, people pressed for time will take the bus back to their car and then drive to the arena for awards. Saw it at O in the Oaks back in April.

It's tough enough to get folks to stick around for awards, but when the ability to get on the road is delayed further by logistics, attendance will take an even bigger hit.

Thought I'd been to Lynn Woods sometime in the past. Went looking & found this version of Lynn Woods. Pleased to see the memory works well enough (and that the map survived the "Great Flood" of '00 or '01).

Lynn Woods

Cool!
I knew there is a very old version of the map Larry did years ago, but non of us have actually ever seen it before.

Awesome, thanks for posting this, Bob! The new version looks about the same, but the contour interval has been changed from 10 to 11 feet.

jjcote:
3.3 meter contours (?!). 5 meters is more like 16 feet.

11 feet is a lot of meters! feet must be, what, just under 1.9m?
Oct 20, 2011 2:11 PM #
ndobbs:
Including the feet my feet are under over 1.9m.
Oct 20, 2011 5:25 PM #
jjcote:
1.9m? No, I think he aren't that tall.
Oct 20, 2011 5:35 PM #
Cristina:
Well, even if feet were only 1.7m, 11 feet would be a lot of meters!

Is packet pickup available at the meet hotel (Red Roof Inn) Friday evening? What time? Or where/when on Saturday?
