Why does my
splits analysis show 41 seconds "Lost" on Leg 1 even though I was the fastest runner on that leg?
Not that I care much, just trying to understand the AP calculations.
You didn't dominate the competition as commandingly on leg 1 as you did on the other legs. Consider the theoretical case of a course where each leg takes everybody four minutes, except for you, because you're twice as fast and do every leg in two minutes. But on one leg, you take 3:30, while everybody else still takes 4:00. You're still the fastest on that leg, but clearly something went wrong for you.
In this case what went wrong for you was that there was no navigation required, so you didn't have as much of an advantage.
Todd .. i got the same message ; I had 1:37 lost on that leg ... I walked the whole course ... what happened to you on leg 2 ?
The AP splits analyzer is smarter than I thought.
Yes, if first leg was an actual orienteering leg, and not a long road run, I should have won it by larger margin.
@Ian
leg 2... I blew that one, Should have been more patient to maintain the initial bearing and disciplined enough to confirm the contours on the way to that hill. Prickly ash fight distracted, to be sure.
